The Interactive Gecko gets stuck on ULearn

As term four rolls around another ULearn conference comes to a close. Based at the Christchurch convention centre and attracting around 2,000 delegates, ULearn is an opportunity for teachers to spend three days learning about the latest and greatest ways for improving ICT use in their classrooms.

One new gadget, only just released in New Zealand, being shown at ULearn was the Interactive Gecko. Supplied by Manzana, the Interactive Gecko attaches to your whiteboard and, combined with your computer and data projector, gives you an inexpensive/portable interactive whiteboard. The Interactive Gecko also comes complete with 2Touch Workbook, the New Zealand developed educational software.

Although there where many exhibitors on display it was a group of stretchy toy Geckos that caused a stir within the exhibition hall. Around 11cm long and sticky to the touch, the Gecko’s were being given out on the Manzana stand to celebrate the launch of the Interactive Gecko. The Gecko’s turned out to be in hot demand with many teachers coming back for a second or third Gecko to take home to the kids – at least that’s what they said!
