The WordWall interactive software is ideal for any interactive whiteboard or touch screen device. WordWall concentrates on creating active slides and lessons designed to engage students.
What sets WordWall apart from other IWB software?
WordWall has the usual whiteboard software features such as pens, highlighters, erasers, auto shape, screen capture, etc. But what sets WordWall apart is its utilisation of interactive tiles containing text, images, shapes, or whiteboard annotations. These tiles can be swapped, flipped, hidden, or marked.
Teachers can take these tiles and make dynamic and engaging games based around individual tile content.
The activities
With nineteen templates, known as wizards (see below), teachers can instantly convert tile information into classroom activities. Wizards provide activities based around higher-order learning processes such as categorisation, differentiation, and evaluation, as well as opinion gathering.
There are your basic Wizards such as: quiz, sentence maker, opinion poll, and match-up, that tests student's knowledge and provide instant feedback. Whilst, other activities such as empty grid and simple text provide users with a set of tiles that can be edited and turned into interactive activities.
Sentence Maker
Simply input a sentence into the Sentence maker wizard and WordWall instantly places every word and punctuation mark onto an interactive tile. Teachers can then flip over, move around or replace tiles on the screen, leaving gaps or jumbled up sentences.
Resources at your Finger Tips
Designed to save teachers time, WordWall has developed three resource banks to help you instantly create activities.
Image bank
The WordWall image bank aggregates content from all the major image search engines and filters out unsuitable images, leaving you with a range of pictures on your chosen lesson/activity topic. The image bank saves you from having to download a gallery onto your computer.
Text bank
Provides users with 2.6 million encyclopaedic articles containing information relating directly to school syllabus subjects.
Activity bank
Simply search a topic and the activity bank will throw up WordWalls previously created by other teachers. If the activities are not quite right then you can modify them to suit your lesson's needs. You can also share your own lessons by clicking ‘allow sharing’ when saving your activities.
WordPad connection
WordWall is also designed to be used with the unique and innovative WordPad responders. Every student within the class is given a WordPad responder which includes a full QWERTY keypad and individual screen. Students can then use the responders to answer a variety of questions posed by the teacher. Questions can range from open ended, to basic ABC voting.
WordWall is a fantastic compliment to any interactive whiteboard or data projector andcan be used for creating starters, main activities and plenaries. Every lesson activity and student response can be saved directly on to your computer so you never lose class thoughts and results.
