Tips & Tricks
Scrolling Text – For those enduring values, an important notice or reminder (i.e., bring your togs tomorrow, as it’s swimming day, or we’re having a Test on a specific subject, etc.), you can access a scrolling (Flash) text banner from the ‘Activity Toolbox’ and place it on your lesson (Smart Notebook page).
Short or small students can access the Smart Notebook toolbar, if you press the arrow at the far right hand of the Smart Notebook toolbar.
Automatic Saves. Once you’ve saved your Smart Notebook lesson file, you can save automatically, every few minutes, if you go to: File, and then Timed Saves. This will allow you to select how often you’d like to save your file, where you’d like to save it, and what format, i.e., html, in the case of preparing the file for uploading to your school website or intranet. This way, you won’t need to think of it again.
You can make an image of a storybook “WALK”. Select the image, then drop down the menu arrow on the top right hand, select ‘Flip’ and then select ‘Left/Right’. From then on, go to the Smart Notebook toolbar at the top of your page and alternate ‘Undo/Redo’. This is a fun way for Primary School children to make a character ‘walk’, after working on the story.
Drawing a perfect circle. For those of us who can't compete in the World Perfect Circle Championships (as demonstrated on YouTube): You can draw a perfect circle or square on a Smart Notebook page, by holding down the shift key firstly (either on your computer keyboard or the Smart On Screen keyboard). This will prevent you from distorting a circle or square when drawing it. Press the Shift key on the on screen keyboard or your computer keyboard, then select the shape of your choice and then draw it on your page.
